“Truly transformative and a wonder to observe. This work is invaluable.”

-Kirsten Jensen Director, ALTITUDE at VIA Services Inc.

Music Ascension is a teaching artist collective that specializes in placing songwriters, music producers, musicians, and audio-engineers into classrooms and summer camps throughout the United States. Since 1999, they have proven to be a galvanizing force that reflects and enhances the communities in which they work. Music Ascension has produced over 75 albums featuring original lyrics, music, and artwork of thousands of children.

Music Ascension was founded with the vision to help instill within children an enduring belief in themselves and their own creativity. It’s mission is to foster lasting personal and professional growth in young people through musical projects designed to engage and inspire everyone to create. Utilizing contemporary mobile recording technology to convert classrooms and community spaces into fully functioning recording studios, Music Ascension provides a powerful platform for young people to find, develop, and share their creative voices. With innovative courses in songwriting, music production, audio-engineering, instrumental music, chorus and in-class general music, Music Ascension offers young people the chance to feel their creativity fuel their learning.

Founded in 1999 by singer/songwriter Pete Kalvert, who is a certified New Jersey Teacher of Music as well as Social Studies, Music Ascension received the NJ Department of Education’s Innovations in Special Education Award for 2016. Music Ascension has provided Professional Developments for the Newark Public School District, the West Orange Central School District, The Fedcap School, Chapel Hill Academy and ASAH (a non-profit organization serving over 145 Schools of Special Education and agencies in NJ). Their work has been featured on WBAI’s Wake Up Call, WFUV’s Cityscapes, and has been the focus of multiple TEDx talks given by Mr. Kalvert. “Our children have a lot to say… We can help them say it.”

Below, Pete Kalvert asks “What if we gave our children the space and the opportunity to express all that they have in language and in music… and we listen?” at TEDxBeaconStreet:
